Alan R. Forbes, M.D. Ph.D. completed his Radiation Oncology training at Harvard University's Joint Center. He is a graduate
of the University of Miami School of Medicine. Dr. Forbes has both a Masters and a Doctorate degree from the Massachusetts
Institute of Technology in Nuclear Engineering and Applied Nuclear Physics. He was on faculty at the M.D. Anderson Cancer
Center Orlando where he was Chief of Radiation Oncology. Dr.
Forbes' clinical interests are centered on the use of highly targeted treatments such as IGRT (image guided radiation therapy)
and brachytherapy for the most effective minimally invasive treatment. Dr. Forbes believes strongly in the physician team
approach, to provide the best care for the patient's cancer and individual needs. Dr. Forbes has extensive experience in the
use of IGRT and intensity modulated radiotherapy in the treatment of prostate cancer. He was a primary developer of gold fiducial
markers, which are placed in the prostate for image guided treatment. He has more than 20 years experience performing prostate
seed implants, having first brought them to Central Florida in 1991. Dr. Forbes has extensive publications in the areas of prostate cancer, lung cancer, head & neck, brain and gynecological
cancers. His research has appeared in journals such as the Journal of Clinical Oncology, and the International Journal of
Radiation Oncology, Biology and Physics. He has been on the board of researchers for multiple national multi-institutional
research boards such as NIH and was a Principal Investigator for RTOG. He is on the Medical Staff of Orlando Health including
Orlando Regional Medical Center, Dr. Phillips Hospital, and South Seminole Hospital. He has been named one the Best Physicians in Orlando for many years by Orlando Magazine.

Winter Park Cancer Center provides patients with some of the most advanced technologies
available to treat cancer. Some of the treatments and technologies available at Winter Park Cancer Center include: Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) – a sophisticated type of external beam radiotherapy which allows
delivery of precisely targeted radiation beams to tumors, while sparing the surrounding healthy organs and tissues. Radiosurgery: The Winter Park Cancer Center has full capabilty for brain radiosurgery and body
radiosurgery. Radiosurgery is a highly pecise form of radiotherapy that cauterizes the tumor in one to three treatments while
sparing nearby structures. The result is highly effective in killing brain tumors, and cancers in the spine, liver and lung. Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT) - A radiation treatment guided by imaging equipment, such as CT, ultrasound
or X-rays, taken in the treatment room just before radiation is given. During IGRT, the images are used as a final check to
ensure accurate placement of the radiation treatment. Three-Dimensional Conformal Radiation Therapy (3D-CRT) – a sophisticated set of computer assisted tomography
scans (CT or CAT scans) and/or magnetic resonance imaging scans (MR or MRI scans) that create detailed, three-dimensional
representations of tumors and surrounding organs for precise delivery of radiation beams to the exact size and shape of the
tumor. High Dose Rate Brachytherapy (HDR) – an innovative form of internal radiotherapy that places radioactive materials
directly in contact with cancer tissues using catheters or wires, which are then removed when a curative dose has been delivered
to the cancer. This comprehensive, aggressive approach to treatment ensures the maximum radiation dose is given where you
need it most, while sparing the healthy surrounding tissue. Prostate Seed Implants – rice-sized “seeds” of radioactive material that are placed into a cancerous
prostate. Seeds can be left in place permanently, as they give off radiation for a specific period of time (weeks or months),
and do not need to be removed once the radiation is gone. Due to their high success rate, prostate seed implants are an alternative
to radical surgery, and are one of the most popular radiation procedures in the United States. MammoSite® Radiation Therapy System – a highly targeted procedure performed after a lumpectomy that uses
a catheter (or catheters) to insert a radiation seed directly into the breast for a few minutes, twice a day for five days.
After each treatment, the seed is removed and no radiation remains in the breast between treatments.
